ICO Guidelines for Diabetic Eye Care
The ICO Guidelines for Diabetic Eye Care aim to support and educate ophthalmologists worldwide to improve the quality of eye care for patients with diabetes.
Stratified in three levels to apply to settings with high, medium, or low available resources, the guidelines offer recommendations for screening and evaluation of people with diabetes for potentially blinding eye problems and treatment of those with diabetic retinopathy and other ocular complications of diabetes. They also explain why ophthalmologists need to work with diabetologists, primary care providers, and others in the context of available clinical equipment, trained personnel, and resources.
